Sometime after four in the morning, the Vice-President, Julio Cobos, cast the decisive vote that defeated the tax measure that has caused so many problems here in Argentina. It was quite dramatic. It is not clear what comes next. Hopefully the result will be to strengthen the democratic institutions of the country. Here is a link to a NY Times article. I am not sure why the reporter filed from Rio de Janeiro. I guess being on the same continent is close enough.
